Editorial Reviews:

Driven by a 13 amp motor, the Snow Joe 622U moves up to 800 pounds of snow per minute. Its durable, 4 steel blade rotor throws snow up to 20 feet, cutting 19 wide and 11 deep with each pass. The scraper blade at the base of the unit scrapes the snow clear to the pavement. Pivot wheels enhance the units maneuverability, making it easy to turn and start a new path.

    Summary: do not buy this
Comment: Do not buy this snow blower. You will regret it. I do not believe I have ever been this disappointed in a product before.

As I first used this snow blower on a few inches of snow I was disappointed to find that it did not work any better than my shovel except for saving my back a little. The Snow Joe would only throw the snow about 7 feet, give or take. Once I cleared the first 7 feet of my driveway then my snow depth would double until the next 7 feet where it would double again - and on and on. I went out and bought a 12 gauge extension cord. That helped a little bit in throwing the snow about 10 feet. As I pushed through the snow some of the snow would just get pushed to the side of the Snow Joe causing me to have to go back over the row that I had just cleared - doubling my work. In total it took me about the same amount of time to shovel my driveway as snow blowing it.

We had our first big storm on December 26th. It was about a foot and a half. I was very careful with the Snow Joe. I would clear the top layer of snow by angling the Snow Joe up and then clear the bottom half - again it would push some of the snow to the side. After clearing a 5 foot area my Snow Joe broke. The blade would no longer spin. I had only used the Snow Joe 4 times. I tried to call the company, but after working my way through their phone menu I would get hung up on. I tried several different routes through the phone menu, but each time that I would get to the point where I could speak to someone I was hung up on.

Since I bought the product at the beginning of spring of last year I cannot return it. I have a two year warranty, but that seems like a waste sine the Snow Joe is of really no help.

Sorry to be such a downer about this product, but I do not want anyone else to make the same mistake that I have made. I feel like I have been taken advantage of an online retailer.

    Very dissatisfied

    Summary: Great little machine
Comment: I got this snowblower because I didn't want a gas one, and this was the most powerful electric one I could find. So far in a snowy December in Chicago, this has handled what has fallen, but we haven't had anything over 6" yet. My one complaint is that the crank to redirect the chute is a bit cheap, and the screws that keep the last piece of the chute in place keep coming loose. Small complaints, I admit.

    Summary: snow joe snowthrower
Comment: bought used. i was told it was used once. and i think that to be true. 1st snow thrower i ever owned. i have about 600 sq.ft. driveway. because of my ignorance,a blade came loose and cracked the housing and bent the blade that came loose. i repaired the damage and tightened all bolts. machine does good job on new snow, wet or dry as long as its not more than 3" deep, takes on deeper snow but belt squeals, it is not a large machine. the chute was stiff cranking so i also took it apart and greased it with low temp.[safe for plastic] grease. so far i'm happy with its operation, its paid for itself already this year [so far 14" of snow removed] no sore back, or $$ to have done. :]

Summary: buy a toro. snow joe blows and i don't mean snow.
Comment: this is a real p.o.s. used the snow joe twice and it stopped working. aside from the clogging others have reported, the drive belt was shredded after these two light uses.
called customer service and was informed that belts are considered wear and tear and not covered by the warranty.
i took my complaint up a level to the parts manager and he agreed to send me a belt n/c this one time. we'll see what the next two uses bring.
had a toro for 19 years w/o a problem. took a chance on the snowjoe. big mistake and a waste of money.

Summary: Works Hard might Whines under load or loses power
Comment: Had received this item for early Christmas present, but I had to open it up to take care of the worst North East Snow storm. I had got hit pretty hard and my prior SnowJoe 322 Shovel wasn't up for the huge fall. The snow was so deep that the SnowJoe 622 was covered. All you could see was the shoot on top. Still I must say at first it was pretty tough going but after getting the hang of it I was able to see how well this item performed.

The way this item is designed it tilts downward to give you a deep cleaning as much as possible. If you tilt it up a bit you can get it to stop from clogging as others have reported here. It's better to have the shoot pointed straight for on going clearing of the snow.

The unit will Whine like the belts are giving out my I have next door guy he has Toro 1800 and it does the same thing under a heavy load, but his doesn't have the 19" wide clearing and the blades are metal not plastic that can break if you're not careful.

Still I was able to do my entire driveway with 3 passes and the entire parking space out back. Looks like some had plowed the back and the driveway but it was all due to the SnowJoe 622.

Update as of 1/1/09, we just had another snow storm and now 622 has really failed. I can't recommend this. Can't use it no more!

    Here's why..

    1. Can't handle wet snow it clogs-up
    2. Steel Auger/Paddle can clog-up with snow and don't spin
    3. Steel Auger/Paddle can break off
    4. Auger/Paddle are attached by screws and bolts that are not tighten
    5. Screws and bolts can fly off if not tighten
    6. Auger/Paddle assembly can damage internal housing if it becomes loose

The whining problem is trouble some as it tries to remove snow but just can't do it or it takes too much time! I can't understand why the SnowJoe 322 the 12" electric shovel works better than the SnowJoe 622. I would be better off with two 322 and connect them together then I would have 24" show shoveler.

I am returning mine tomorrow! Just don't want to go through this again!

First the steel blade Auger/Paddle I don't think this is steel and it has broken off completely from the main assembly and that can't be fix it has to be replaced but you have to take apart the whole unit. There wasn't any hard ice and I had to finish up with the SnowJoe 322 which uses plastic Auger/Paddle instead of steel Auger/Paddle to clean the rest of the snow.

Can't change the scoring as it would only get 1 star..

I am going for the Toro 1800..
